The transmission or engine misfires could be from the coolant leak if the coolant is getting onto the wiring of the engine. You may also be going into failure mode if the engine is running hot.
Does coolant go through transmission?
All transmissions have a cooling line that runs to the radiator. A separate fluid passage circulates the transmission fluid through a portion of the radiator to cool the fluid. Sometimes, a leak develops in the radiator between the coolant passage and the transmission fluid passage, and coolant gets into the radiator.
How do I know if there is coolant in my transmission fluid?
Look at the color of the transmission fluid. Fresh transmission fluid is a bright red color due to dye that is added to the fluid. If the fluid is a milky pink color, it has either antifreeze or water in it.
Can low coolant cause transmission overheating?
It takes much longer for a transmission to respond to low fluid levels. A transmission is much more likely to overheat if the fluid levels drop too low.
What happens when your transmission overheats?
A transmission that frequently overheats can cause fluid to leak from the transmission, so if you are constantly replacing the fluid, it’s a good indication of a leak. A slipping transmission is also an indication of low, dirty, or burnt transmission fluid. You also need to be aware of the check engine light.
